What a great day to do this traverse for the first time. Patchy ice started around 4000ft on North Carter Trail, on and off to the junction, some patches but less so on the ridge - all was easily stepped around so no traction needed. Some places along the ridge with lots of standing water including a long one between South Carter and Zeta Pass with no bog bridges that requires a short bushwhack around. The are
close to a dozen large blowdowns mostly between South Carter and Zeta Pass that will require a chainsaw to remove - we moved several smaller ones throughout the course of the day. The only place we used spikes all day was for a few hundred feet headed up to Carter Dome - still up to 2-3' of snow in places. No issues headed down into and up out of Carter Notch. A few extended areas of snow and ice on Wildcat Ridge Trail in the cols between C and D peaks but easily navigated around. Uneventful walk down the ski trails. Ended up being a beautiful sunny day with almost no wind.

Hannah had a great day - no issues with the terrain or ice, plenty of water (including a quick dip in one of the lakes in the notch), and the most exciting for her, plenty of mud! :D

Saw only about half a dozen people the whole day (thanks to the caretaker at the hut for the awesome brownies). Fantastic day out with Ali and Hannah - cloudy misty morning turned into a perfect sunny spring day!
