They now have a press release looking for a few more volunteers for this coming weekend:
COLUMBIA, NH-- Itching to work atop a 3,000-footer in the shadow of a rustic lean-to in the most remote terrain in Columbia township? Cohos Trail Association officers Lainie Castine of Pittsburg, Bob Paradise of Stark, and Mountain Magic of Dalton are leading a volunteer workday (and overnight at the lean-to if you so desire) atop Baldhead Mountain, elevation 3,047 feet, on Saturday, July 18th.
If you like exploring remote country and doing a bit of trail work for your fellow travelers in this life, then come to Log Haven Campground parking lot in Millsfield on Route 26 at 8 a.m. on that Saturday and jump aboard a four-wheel drive vehicle or two and shuttle into the Kelsey Notch Trail trailhead tucked under the south flank of Dixville Peak. Bring work gloves, boots, two quarts of water, a lunch, snacks, bug dope, and a will to get dirty and sweaty climbing a fine woods trail to the summit of Baldhead, with its lean-to and wonderful forty-mile view down the Phillips Brook Valley. The crew leaves promptly at 8 a.m., so get up with the birds, eat on the fly, and drive that Detroit flivver to Log Haven as fast as the law allows.
Work for the day will include cleaning debris and blowdowns from the trail, clipping brush, restoring the view, staining the lean-to, improving the site of the structure, checking the condition of the latrine, and having some free time to enjoy the wonderful view of wild country. If enough folks sign up and wish to spend the night in the lean-to (highly recommended), then an overnight can be arranged.
