Date of Hike: Saturday, March 22

Trail Conditions: We went up the Leach trail and found the trail very hard packed and in some places it was crusty on top. The open area on Noonmark's shoulder was very windy and pushed us around some. The hike over Bear Den and Dial was straight forward. We followed foot prints across the ridge and found them mostly on the trail with a few dead ends in the dense trees. The snow cover was over the top of the sign at the trail junction and the sign was barely exposed. That makes the snow pack around 5 to 6'. On top the winds were much calmer and we could enjoy the fabulous views. We did have lunch down in the trees though. The steep trail down to Elk Pass was very firm and the usual great butt sliding sections were a bit rough.

Special Equipment Required: Snowshoes used all day.

Comments: A spectacular day in the mountains. The trees up high were covered with snow and ice and they glistened in the sun. We could plainly see the ski trails on Gore and Whiteface. The Dix Range and the Great Range were awesome as usual.
