This is for fun. Us hikers see this stuff while hiking in the mountains ALL the time. But I normally don't see it in my hometown. It appears to be snowfall, with clear skies, but its basically a near ground level cloud composed of ice crystals....not quite freezing fog.

Anyways, I got some videos of the diamond dust this morning from Lebanon. I've seen this for two days in a row now, and since lows are headed for (GASP) -30....tomorrow morning, it could happen again.

Videos don't do it justice, and it is an extremely difficult phenomenon to photograph.

I have another older pic, from Chester NH. Its exceedingly rare to get diamond dust there. This is one of two times I ever saw it there.

This is my favorite part of winter. Clear skies, with these ice crystals flying around. :)

EDIT

What I was seeing might not have been Diamond Dust this morning...possibly just some very light snow from a small disturbance that is ushering in the really cold air.

But either way, still a need morning, watching the flakes flutter around, while drinking some coffee.

Nice videos but that doesn't really look like diamond dust to me, here's some pics of diamond dust and sun dogs at -35F. That beam below the sun was blindingly bright.
