Sunday Pam and I finally got around to hiking Dickey & Welch mountains- we were truely amazed with how open and awesome this area truely is! We arrived to a full lot at noon and opted to hike clockwise (Dickey first) as the masses seemed to be headed towards Welch first as the guidebook suggests- a great option as we were the only ones ascending! We really took our time at the top, doing a lot of photography and admiring the truely spectacular diversity of trees and plants! We were also impressed with the great number of families out with the excitment of the young children bringing smiles to our faces- what a great experince for families with relatively minimal effort. On our way down Welch, we had some light showers that- as the book warns- turned the open granite slabs quite slick!! All in all, an awesome trail with awesome views! I was particularily impressed with the vegatation renewal efforts on the big ledge on Welch & the top-notch stonework done on both trails, especially the stone staircases and waterbars- a work of art indeed!
