Booked a place (well in advance) in Rumney for a few days for last weekend. Hoped to rock climb, but weather did not cooperate. Instead, four short hikes:
4/11: Quincy Bog - short nature trail loops around the bog (maybe 1/2 mile), did a couple laps, snow free, not much mud, the treadway acros the "back pond" is partially underwater due to beaver work and not being set high enough (I am guessing it was only a couple inches above the water even before the beaver work).
4/12: Stinson - Trail was solidly packed ice top to bottom, 25F, pouring sleet, windy, zero visibility. Never steep, microspikes sufficient. Felt like winter! Last portion of access road to trailhead may be impassable mud once it melts.
4/13: Cardigan - very nice trail system, well marked. The gate is closed, so must park at lower parking, although it looks like the road will dry soon. Up west ridge, then back down and up again on south ridge. Trails in the woods had good snow cover; summit dome was bare rock. West ridge trail is like a wide forest road most of the way; south ridge trail is more "traditional" narrow winding through the woods.
4/14: Rumney Rattlesnake - nice and dry, almost no mud, only a few small snow patches near the top. Nice views all aound the loop trail on top.
