conditions - trail fairly dry for the time of year. River crossings relatively easy and river was actually few inches lower in the afternoon. One blowdown shortly after leaving the hut on the Twinway. Easy to walk around. Snow on the way up the Twinway was easy to avoid for the most part. There was deeper snow between the two peaks, up to three feet. Sometimes the snow could be avoided but more often it was necessary to walk on top. Some postholing. Trip back was much easier as we had already determined the easier route or discovered the wrong way.

equipment - poles, gaiters

other - the bugs seemed to be out at the end of this warm day, after the last river crossing. Luckily there was often a breeze to keep the bugs away. There was no problem with bugs in the parking lot. Though the USFS web site still lists Haystack Rd as closed we met a hiker on S Twin who had parked at the N Twin trailhead.
