Girl injured in fall on Panther Mt. trail near Piseco in Adirondacks
This occurred on Thursday, August 5. We were relaxing on our rented cabin's porch near Poplar Point state campground when several emergency vehicles (ambulance, fire truck, state police) sped by. I jumped on my bike and pedaled down about two miles to the trailhead of Panther Mountain (which leads to a nice view overlook called Echo Cliffs) overlooking Piseco Lake- where the road was blocked by authorities. Several teenage girls were being comforted/questioned by police. What I learned from bystanders (some of whom had walked past the girls) was this: a short way from the trailhead one 15 yr old girl had fallen on the trail (NOT off Echo Cliffs!) , hit her head, and was unconscious. One woman said when she was taken away, she was not breathing. My wife and I wondered if she survived...
We had hiked the trail on Wednesday and it was steep and quite slippery.
