N. Twin trail in fine shape. Well packed out and easy to navigate. We over-shot the start of the FW trail but realized our mistake and back tracked. We eventually found the FW trail and headed up. All evidence of Rockets visit up this trail yesterday was erased by wind loaded snow/drifting. Low down on the FW trail there was about 4-6" of unbroken snow. As we got higher up the drifting/unbroken snow increased to 8-12" + with higher drifts.
Time beat us today. Our late start (10:30 a.m.) and the increasingly difficult snow conditions the higher up we got caused us to bail out at about 3300'. We wanted to be on the N. Twin trail by dark so we descended and walked out under headlamps in the dark.
Snowshoes are a must!
