I am posting this for my friend Doug, please read below and follow the link!!

Dear All,

My name is Douglas R. Arnold and I represent the 46ers as Chair of the Grace Peak Project. We have been working for almost 10 years now to rename East Dix to honor a true blue Adirondack heroine, Grace Leach Hudowalski #9.

We think that once you see the documentary, “The Mountains Will Wait For You”, you will agree she is worthy.

Good Climbing, Grace!

So many mountains, too little time

While we're at it, can we get the original name restored to Panther? It was Henderson until USGS messed up and reversed the names of two nearby mountains... :)

Why East Dix

Just out of curiosity, why was East Dix chosen to have its name changed rather than some other peak. Buddy

South Dix and East Dix are the only two peaks with "subordinate" names (that is, the name is already used on another peak, and is made new by adding "South" or "East"). (The only other peaks similar to that are Upper and Lower Wolfjaw, but they are more "equal partners" in the naming convention.) So this makes SD and ED easy targets for renaming, because you don't have a constituency worried about "losing" the name "Dix." There may be other reasons, but I think that's the practical reason.

That makes perfect sense. Am I mistaken, or was there an effort to rename Dix in the recent past as well.
