I'm sure I've seen a thread on odd trail experiences, but can't find it. These are close:

Anyway, 8/8/2015 I saw three gentlemen descending the Wachipauka Trail toward NH 25. They had two dogs with panniers. No big deal. What caught my attention was the two-person kayak they were carrying. Not the inflatable kind, but the fiberglass, weighs-a-ton kind. Shame on me for not taking a picture. I knowingly informed them that there was a road on the other side of Wachipauka Pond. They immediately acknowledged that, yes, there was an ATV road. I understood right away that it wash't about the ease of access. It was all about the patently absurd task.

I finished my hike and, unsurprisingly, caught up to them as they were securing their load into a pickup. Yes, they had done this once before, four years ago. I imagine this is the minimum interval to sort of forget the insane effort they expended.
