Conditions: muddy / slippery / well-maintained.

No special equipment needed, other than waterproofed hiking shoes.

Having to work until 2:30 on Sunday, we chose a shorty hike for the first overnight of the year. Started at 4:00 from Hazen Notch after a week of spectacular amounts of rain. Spent the night at Hazen Notch Camp - a dry, snug, cabin with bunks for 8. Off and on rain through the night rattled on the tin roof. Hiked out to South Jay Pass by 10:30 a.m.

The wettest or sec spring on record has left the trail slick on the most rugged part of the LT.

Great 1st overnight of the season.
