Monday Feb 21: Great day on the Rockpile- it was snowing with some nice powder and no one around. Nelson and I barebooted up Tucks onto the Lions Winter route where we threw on the crampons 1/4 of the way up- Great hiking conditions- with surprisingly decent visibility all the way up, even in the snow - winds were slight, and on our backs on the cone. It was poor visibility on the way down on the road till we started telly skiing around 5 1/2 mile point- Fresh tracks till nearly the bottom. who says Mt washington is crowded?- we only saw 2 people at bottom of Tucks trail and two 1/2 mile from the bottom of road while out there 4 1/2 hours.

Washington's birthday

Heh-heh, a chance to use something I remember from elementary school. Washington was born before the Gregorian calendar was in use in the Colonies.
From this website:

The modern calendar in use throughout most of the world today is the Gregorian calendar, named after the Pope who introduced it in 1585. It was not adopted in the United States until an act of the English Parliament made it law throughout the English Empire in 1752.
George Washington was born February 11, 1731 on the old-style Julian calendar. After the calendar revision in 1752, George was now born on February 22, 1732 on the new-style Gregorian calendar.
