Warm, sunny, hazy day with light breezes. Left Pinkham at 7:30 heading north on Old Jackson Road. Met a few hikers including a northbound AT thru-hiker, A Guy on a Buffalo.

Then up the Nelson Crag Trail which I had almost entirely to myself. It's a butt-kicker of a trail; steep and rough, but in good shape. As I passed close to the auto road I could see a bike "race" in progress, with cyclists laboring slowly upward, ever upward. Looks tough. Then I hit the open ledges, challenging scrambles, and nice views. From the top of Ball Crag I see a hiker coming toward me, just starting down the trail. At noon I'm tucking into my celebratory bowl of chili.

Weary descent via Tucks and Lion Head. No shortage of people on these trails. Out at 3:30, footsore and tired. Stop for obligatory ice cream and soak my feet in the Saco for a nice long time. Good day.
