Pemi East Side trail to Franconia Brook Tent site was uneventful. Pine Island trail is closed as well as a section of this trail due to Irene aftermath. Franconia Brook Tent site is intact. Thanks Eric! East Branch crossing was challenging. Original crossing spot has been changed. Stepping stones are gone and there is a 3 1/2 foot deep channel 3/4 of the way across. Current was too swift to cross and the Forest Service was was advising against crossing. Alternative crossing 50 yards east of original at large boulder crossing diagonally towards inlet. Deepest we encountered was about 30 inches with many good stepping stones. Franconia Brook trail was uneventful, as well as the Lincoln Brook trail. The first two Lincoln Brook crossings were boots off but easy. Bring those water shoes. Owls Head tail head was easily identifiable but do pay attention. It can easily be missed. Two small cairns and some well placed logs point the way. Thanks WMNF for leaving them there! GPS coordinates are N44* 08'16.2" W71* 36'56.7". Slide was uneventful and route finding to the summit was easily identifiable. Great day in the mountains. Twelve hour trip with three of us bagging our last 48 summit.
