In 2003 the Fitchburg Art Museum presented the first exhibition of photographs by Ansel Adams that chronicled a Southwest camping trip with David Hunter McAlpin and Georgia O’Keeffe. Now FAM returns with “ANSEL ADAMS IN THE EAST: CRUISING THE INLAND WATERWAY IN 1940.” On display are more than four dozen images snapped by Adams and McAplin (a mix of proofs, gelatin silver prints, and enlargements) that depict a Thanksgiving sailing trip from Norfolk, Virginia, to Savannah, Georgia.
