Eli (dog) and I set out from Boston at 4:40am and reached Crawford Depot at 7:20am. Cool and quiet in the station parking lot.
Avalon & A-Z Trails > Mt. Tom Spur (up & down) > Willey Ridge Trail south over Field to Willey. Turn around on Willey and head north back over Field to Avalon Trail Jct. Descended Avalon all down Crawford.
Didn't see anyone until on Mt. Tom summit. It was cool with a good, sustained wind from the west. Passed three people heading up to Tom on our way down and not another until Field's summit. Cloudy, but good views to the north.
Just before we reached Willey's summit, Eli made fast friends with a married couple, who said that they were not members of VFTT, but her sister was. . . So, if your sister and brother-in-law were on Willey Ridge on Sunday, get them signed up!
We waded through the crowds on our way down Avalon. It appeared as though high school/college kids were everywhere. Strangely, many looked like they were wearing pajamas.
Back at Crawford, the temp was 57F. Autumn is in the air. Love the leafy smells on the trail.
