Date of hike: 1/3/09
Trail consists of well packed snow in the woods with many icy and bare rock patches once out of the trees.
Special Equipment: Barebootable up to the first set of ledges before the steep section toward Welch's summit at which point some traction is helpful. Crampons or microspikes required from Welch summit over Dickey and across much of the ridge. I wore MSRs until Welch summit but you could leave the snowshoes in the car and not miss them.
