West Field via Zealand, A-Z, and bushwhack

Date of Hike: 11/22/08

Trail Conditions: Both trails had several inches of fresh snow on top of mainly frozen and semi-frozen mud. Bushwhack had a little bit of everything

Special Equipment Required: None for hikers, chains were essential for our car.

Comments: The only way our Corolla made it to the Zealand TH was with chains on the tires. The trail conditions were as expected, the weather was better than expected. The bushwhack was open at times, thick at times, the boggy areas we encountered were crossable with the help of snow cover. A blowdown patch near the summit was quite nasty. We saw a trail in the snow of hiker traffic coming onto the A-Z trail that most surely was from Whitewall Mtn - a group of 5 we thought. What was curious was because it looked very fresh and snow was falling, they must have already done the whole trip that day - but it was only 10 in the morning! When did they start?
