You may need to go into private browser Who drove a snowmobile to the peak of Katahdin?

The author of the article made it bit more dramatic as BSP has always allowed rangers with snowmachines to go anywhere in the park, the general public is not allowed anywhere except the perimeter road.

I have also seen a similar photo of folks on the summit posed next to the canoe they carried up.
