I just got reservations for a long weekend in early Fall, and I'm happier than a 5 year old on Christmas morning. That's all I have to say about that.

I drove that road as far as I could. Then I walked it for far more than the .6 that the guide book suggests. I could not find the AT crossing. Have any of you tried to find this approach to the AT? Did I walk or drive right by it?

An inch or 2 of new snow all the way. Several patches of ice. We used Microspikes for all but the bottom 1.5miles. The road was ok to the normal parking lot. My guess is that real soon the gate will be closed and everybody will need to use the winter parking lot.

Did anyone notice in a recent issue of Backpacker, they named Baxter's Chimney Pond as one of America's best "swimming holes"? Hmmmm. I wonder what the rangers think of that. Should I add a snorkel to my hiking gear?
