    boots with support

I have a right ankle issue that requires boots with support. In the past, Asolo Backpackers have been good. I am thinking of getting a new pair, but want to know if anybody knows a brand that has the same quality of support but go higher up over the ankle, like plastic winter boots.

    mount liberty

Flume Liberty Loop After this thread, I parked at Basin at 7 a.m. Missed the bushwhack, it wasn't that obvious. I guess if you are looking for the log bridge, it might be easier to locate. But the main trail was only a short way further. Took Flume Slide trail, people had been up it the day...

    last caribou

When I climbed Mount Caribou the other day, I didn't know that it was named for the last caribou in the region shot on its slopes by two brothers in 1854. Supposedly their names are carved on the summit. Does anyone know where on the summit their names are?

    Waterfalls in Winter

Which reminds me---the Flume in winter. Free, and the loop around to the poet's Pool is always rewarding too, and the view of Liberty and Mount Flume on the way out.

    Waterfalls in Winter

Ossipees The Brook Walk in the Castle in the Clouds property is a good bet for winter. There are a number of falls culminating in Fall of Song, which can do good things with ice. This is not an ice climbing suggestion.

    Snow's Mountain

Does anybody know if Snow's Mountain Ski Area in Waterville is open for skiers in the winter now? On the Web, I only see that it is open in the summer to transport mountain bikers up to the slopes above. Yet climbing up the Cascade Trail to the Snow's Mountain service road, we saw a...

Herd Path from top of Rattlesnake

You start down fron the summit on left hand north loop, go over a couple small rises then turn west and begin to head down. On the gentle slope before heading down, this very vague path takes off north. I agree that it is hunters. Just after it ended on the ridge, there was an area of spruce...

Herd Path from top of Rattlesnake

This Monday I hiked up Rattlesnake in Rumney with my friend. On the way down the loop, I had to visit the woods for a minute, and I saw a herd path heading north along the ridge. We decided to follow it way. It was marked with yellow tape, and had been cleared a little, but was rarely used. It...
