Pilot pliny range info (ISO )

Anyone familiar with winter crossing of Kilkenny Ridge across the Weeks? Curious also about continuing on north of the horn and Bulge towards Stark in winter. Are these lesser traveled connections overgrown or rarely cared for? Coverage has to be thin after the huge rain. I'm thinking it might...

    Williams Pond Road

Has anyone accessed BSP via the Williams Pond Road and have an idea on what the road conditions might be like? Anyone up to BSP recently at all and can comment on the roads OUTSIDE the park, AND TOTE road conditions inside?

Winter access to Bigelows, Safford Brook

Has anyone ever used the Safford Brook trail to climb the Bigs in winter? Or does everyone prefer the FW's trail? I like the Fire Wardens route but it means extra skiing on the road.

Short notice Baxter approval. Any luck?

I know BSP's policy is to receive winter reservation requests 7 business days in advance. Does anyone know if its possible to get a short notice rez? I was thinking about Abol O&B in a day next weekend and/or N.Brother the same. Do day trips require any prior approval to walk in?

    North Brother Winter Access

Pat, or anyone else who has wintered in BSP or to North Brother, is there access to the park through Nesowadnehunk Field CG? How long is The road to Slide dam, about 5 miles? If this route doesnt work, what have you used to access the route to NB? Thanks!

    Guyot Campsite

I've never been to the actual Guyot campsite. Ive seen some photos of the shelter and it appears there is no door on it. Does it remain open in the winter? I was thinking it would make a nice bivy this winter on the loop.

Has anyone skiied Moosilauke this winter?

I was wondering if anyone has done any of the 3 options of ski tours on Moosilauke this winter. Coverage is still thin, but there is finally enough that I think this could be decent. Wondering how far snowmobiles may have gone up the Carriage road, and what Gorge Brook or Carriage Trail to...

    Garfield, GH, Twins loop. Direction?

Friday Im planning to do Garfield, GH, and the Twins in a circuit of some fashion. Originally I'd planned on ascending Garfield Trail and crossing the ridge to the Twins and descending that way. A friend said he glissaded almost the entire Twin trail from North Twin summit down to the river...

Hancock Notch - Hancock Loop & Greely Ponds - Mt Osceola Trail

1.12.16 I started at 6am on the Hancock lollipop and found trail conditions to be HORRENDOUS. Frozen styrofoam on the sides but not strong enough to hold the weight of 190# man and lite pack. The main "broken out" section was postholed in the rain or shortly after and refrozen solid. Imagine...

Carter Dome, S&M Carter via 19MB-CDT-Mt Hight-CMT-Imp S, Wildcat A&D via ridge 1.9.15 Early start on 19MB, packed highway as usual. FAST travel with micros. some icy places but easily navigable. Flume Slide Trail

Date: 1.8.16 For those interested Flume Slide was in fine shape Fri. A few people had been out already so snow was compacted to make easy walking. I ascended in only micros and use a single ice tool to boulder around a bit on the steep sections but almost all of this could have been avoided if...

    Northern Presies

Date: 1.5.16 Climbed Valley Way to Madison and then Star Lake trail to Adams yesterday. temps were cold but bluebird. Good snow coverage (wind packed) above treeline provided nice climbing conditions. VW was packed out smooth and made for a fast pace. Lowes Path to Gray Knob, Hincks and...

    Lincoln's Throat?

Does anyone have any recent beta on what type of shape Lincoln's Throat is in? Enough ice to cover the crux pitch? I was considering this as the start for a Franconia Ridge traverse on Friday if things hold up [and build over this week without filling the woods too much]

Cabot & Waumbek (Starr King & BNT to KKR)

12.29.15 Did Waumbek at 630am this morning. arrived to about 3-4" of snow and more coming down. SUV made it to the parking lot. Trail was fast, snow was not compactable but once it settles into the ice thats there it will make for good base for the next snow to come.I didnt need snow shoes but...

New England 67 in 1 winter season

Does anyone know if anyone has ever completed the 67 peaks of New England in 1 calendar winter before? (I know everyone likes to stress how hard the NH 48 are, but honestly, I think doing the Maine 14 is harder. Not only are the Carrabassett Valley peaks not easily accessible by any means but...

Roads are closed, but theres no snow...which of the 48 do you like?

So the FS has closed most of the access roads to peaks like Hale and Carrigain but theres NO SNOW. So under these circumstances, which of the 48 do you like to do? Is there any advantage to some of these peaks and trails when snow is low, and which are best with heavy coverage? Opinions?
