Date hiked: Weekend of May 24-26
Trails hiked: All trails on Cardigan Mountain, Firescrew Mountain and Orange Mountain (Mount Gilman)
Trail conditions: all trails are clear of any snow/ice and are almost entirely dry -- very few muddy/wet areas.
Special equipment needed: sunscreen, bug dope
Item of interest: hiked (bushwhacked -- trail is getting overgrown) down to Grotto Cave east of Cardigan (off of Mowglis Trail, toward Firescrew) for a look-see at the caves, and there is a large, 100-lb chunk of ice in one of the caves. It's the only ice left on the mountain.
