Trail Conditions: Nicely packed snowshoe track in AM on Falling Waters, but softer and more chewed up later in day. Lots of pruned blowdowns down low to cross over/under, but not a major issue. Stream crossings bridged in AM, but broke up a bit in PM, but not a concern. Franconia Ridge was typical rime ice.
Special Equipment Required: snowshoes helpful on Falling Waters. Traction almost essential on Franconia Ridge. Our Kahtoola Steel Crampons were PERFECT Facial protection and full winter clothing required on the ridge. VERY WINDY.
Comments: great hike in temperate conditions, although it was colder and very windy on the ridge. Winds spiked up to 45-50 mph in a couple of places, blowing us around a bit, but not off our feet. Views were sporadic, but we got some! Ran into VFTTer Mtnpa in the parking lot and on the trail. Hope your hike out to Liberty went well, Mike. Great to hike again with my pal, Rols!
