Date of Hike: 2/14/10
Trail Conditions: Firmly packed trail with the occasional blowdown. A few periods of thick ice, but mostly packed snow. Wore MicroSpikes the entire day (though I wish I threw on the snowshoes with heal lifts for the final, steep ascent up to the Carriage Rd). No issue with snow at parking lot.
Special Equipment: MicroSpikes the whole day for us. Snowshoes/crampons could be useful but not necessary. Most people bare-booted and threw on light traction for the final push. By the afternoon, face mask and goggles were a must. Visibility dropped to 50 ft near summit for us; if hiking solo, trail markers useful to make sure you don't get lost.
Comments: Strong winds by summit made for a fun winter trek. A few pictures over at http://buchhomr.blogspot.com/2010/02/mt-moosilauke.html
