Waumbek via Starr King
Date of Hike: 12-24-12
Trail Conditions: The lower areas of the trail were muddy in a few spots but overall the conditions were great! Mostly fresh powder on top of packed snow. Definitely not deep enough to require snow shoes.
Special Equipment Required: I bare-booted the first mile before putting on my Kahtoolas. Every hiker I encountered from about a mile or so in had microspikes on to improve traction but there was minimal ice throughout the trail.
Comments - It was a beautiful day but bitterly cold at 7:00 am (about 14 degrees). Flurries were present throughout the hike and limited what little views there were from Starr. The rime covered everything from floor to canopy and made for some amazing scenery.
