Not directly related to this story, but when I drove through Banff on my way to the Yukon a couple of years ago, I noticed a lot of cars stopped in the 4 lane roadway and people rushing over across the median to the other side. I thought it must be a bad accident. As I approached I noticed a grizzly scrambling up the bank into the woods with dozens of cameras flashing behind it. There are caution signs along the road to not stop or get close to wildlife. Later, there were multiple herds of huge bison on and near the road. One large bull overlooking his herd looked at me as I slowed down, as if to say "these are my women, I dare you to stop".
