This really has me puzzled...
Looking over some of my older photos I found THIS ONE (cropped) I took on a trip up East Royce in the Evan's Notch area. The shot is from the summit (looking southwest) The rock face in the foreground is part of West Royce.

What is the large black line running down the rock face? A massive fracture or a shadow caused by the left part of the rock face being higher than the right side?

Any ideas?
Thanks,

There isn’t much evidence of harsh shadows being cast by other features in the scene (trees). That leads to strong conjecture that what you are looking at is a fracture in the rock.

Thanks for the input! That must be one huge crack! Look at the size of it compared to the trees. I wonder how deep it goes... and I wonder how much debris has fallen into it. I'd hate to come across something like that on a bushwack!

Thanks again,
