Ok, more Pharaoh questions.

Does anyone know how many lean-tos are located at the west end of Pharaoh Lake? I've stayed at the one on the north-east side several times, but never been to the other end of the lake.

Also, what's the easiest trailhead to use to get in to Pharaoh lake itself? I was thinking the Pharaoh Lake Brook trail from the south-west would be the easiest trail to hike, but don't know the parking situation there. How does that trailhead compare to the Crane Pond trailhead (where I've never been...) I've only used the Putnam Pond trailhead in the past.

Thanks!

Josh

The 5 leantos are located approximately at these locations.

There are also a number of tent sites as well. Crane Pond and Mill Brook (Pharaoh Lake Brook) trailheads both require 4 wheel drive to reach the final parking areas, but both have smaller areas along the way for vehicles that don’t have the ground clearance to make it all the way in. This adds anywhere from 1 to 2 miles to the hike in. The most direct route to the lake is the Mill Brook TH. The trail is an old road and is well maintained and easy to follow. The only bad section of the trail is the wet marsh between the final parking area and the trail register.

I believe there are six, total. I take care of PL#6 ... but yes, there are lots of lean-tos in there to stay at. #6 is on the SouthWest side of the lake. Very pretty spot. The other one on the Western shore is a little further north. It is a huge double wide that sits on a point. Amazing location.

Also the trail up Pharoah Mountain is very nice from the east.

This is on the DEC's work list for Sept/Oct to put in a bog bridge. That would be nice, the serpentines are trampling everything in sight.

You're right there are 6. Apparently I can't even count the number of links that I posted. :D

Ha! Neither can I! I thought you had posted 5 links!

Hey jbrown, if you go by #6 take a peek and see if she's doing all right. My next trip will be for the fall clean-up, with an oakum repair scheduled. And perhaps putting a privy door on if they get me one ... three years and counting!

I thought there were alot of lean-tos there, but didn't realize how many. Thanks a ton, guys. I appreciate the help.
