Transitioning Back to Work after a Thru-Hike

I agree with a lot of what has been said already. I'm not going to lie to you though, I had a real rough time coming back. And I think often of taking off for another long journey. Until I am able to take the time to do that, I take anywhere from 1 to 3 weeks off to backpack each year to try...

    Best Hikes in the US!

Great list! Thanks for posting this, it's great! I would add 2 in PA: Old Loggers Path - 23 mile loop with an old ghost town thrown in Loyalsock Trail - 60 miles one way

Mt Washington Auto Road-Does it Count?

The estimated statistics can be found on the ATC's Web site: http://www.appalachiantrail.org/site/c.jkLXJ8MQKtH/b.851143/ I say estimated since not everyone registers at the beginning or end. Also, the people who make it to Katahdin may not have truly "completed" their hike. It could be they...

Does your S.O. read or post here?

Mine doesn't...at least not yet. I'm not sure if I should get him started. He certainly heard about this site enough while we were on the trail. He isn't obsessed the way I am, but he obviously hikes and is looking forward to hiking some high peaks this winter.

Either weekend could work for me. I don't have a big preference in location either. Ever thought about a winter gathering in the Catskills?

    100 Mile Wilderness Backpacking?

my 2 cents Everyone has given you great advice. I'll just add my 2 cents worth. You can definitely do it in less than 10 days. The first 14 miles or so are not bad, then the next few miles until you get to White Cap are more difficult. It's not just the ups and downs, but it is also the roots...
