    stretching boots?

Anyone have any luck stretching boots. I've always had trouble buying boots, particularly heavy leather backpacking boots. I've got a pair of light hikers, but my ankles fend much better over time with big boots. to make things worse, my right foot is at least 1/2 size bigger. I bought a pair...

    ~2 day Maine Hike recommendations

Looking to get out for 2 full days of hiking. Could probably stretch that to 2.5 providing the trail head is not too far from Portland. I've already done the Grafton Loop trail a couple of times and a couple of loops in Evans notch. still haven't made my way up to the bigelows yet. I've spoke...

Two images from the same sunset

I'm speaking in generalities, like the general principals you lean in photographic education. So we agree on the sun, that's really an easy one. As for the square crop, well you have a good point and i to shot a number of years (and still do) with my hasselblad and large format film. AS you...

Two images from the same sunset

Not necessarily, but often. No one is saying you image is bad. I just personally think that a more deliberate crop is effective. In other words, with a dominant horizon I think you either need to split it 50/50 or more like 25/75 other wise it can look like a mistake. 40\60 is just too close...

    On Signal Ridge

Good points, I agree with the vertical crop suggestion very much. I don;t, however, agree, with the need to see faces. One thing is for sure, faces can certainly create a mood and involve the viewer -- this is great if that's what you are striving for. Shooting a "faceless" person is one of my...

    Composition "rules"

Nothing wrong with walking "out", though I'd like to see more room on the right side of the moose so that you KNOW it was done on purpose, otherwise it can be interpreted as a mistake. It is common practice to put the subject facing in, as it creates a sense of space and scale. Here are 2 very...

    Grafton Loop (East)

I'm quite familiar with Balpate and Puzzle. I was confident that once we got over East BP that the going would get a lot easier. I would recommend stabilicers for the Baldpate though not need the rest of the trail (right now). The dogs did great. Kayden has been hiking, biking and skiing with...

Two images from the same sunset

I think the second one is more successful personally. There's a very elementary photography "rule" at play here. The rule of thirds (see pic) state one should always put objects of interest in "thirds section" (crosses). Otherwise an image can have a floaty type feeling. You've done this quite...

    Cool Photoshop tricks

If you can, the simplest solution is to manually set you color temp in the camera. 500OK is a general rule of thumb. You may find mid winter light to be even cooler ~5100-5200K. And of course Shooting RAW would give you the freedom to tweak color temp in post.

    Grafton Loop (East)

Been meaning to do this for quite some time and thanks to vegematic, my car was waiting for us right where it needed to be :) I don't have time to format the TR for the forums so you'll have to go here

    artsy-fartsy or just weird?

Also, while PROPER exposure is your best bet in keeping noise at bay, the shooting raw does help.

    Canon DSLR shooters, need help.

The Software that comes with ALL Canon DSLR's will load, edit and process raws FWIW

    artsy-fartsy or just weird?

Noise/grain has nothing to do with more or less pixels used. It has to do with EXAGGERATED imperfections in exposure. To get real technical, "grain" is specific to film, there is no grain in digital. If you think of pixels as Buckets on the ground and rain drops as light photons i can make a...
