I agree that the silicone itself is probably not the culprit. I also agree that repair will be difficult because of the silicone. A product that has worked well for me is Freesole (made by McNett) I repaired the toe rand on my boots using this and it has held up well.
Scrub the separated...
I use the Highgear Altitech 2 (clip-on) and I'm happy with it. More than accurate enough for my needs when properly calibrated. Changing weather will throw the unit off but recalibrating from a known point is simple enough if you're not looking for pinpoint accuracy all the time. Serves as my...
Thanks Tom. In my days at Marist we used to sit by the river and imagine what a view there had to be from up there. I often wondered how long it would be until they tore it down. Certainly nice that it met a much better fate. I need to get down there and check it out.
I think Devil's Tombstone now stays open until Columbus Day. I know someone who got a "parking ticket" a Notch Lake last year assuming the campground closed after Labor Day.
I agree that the "easiest" trails aren't the best way to see these two mountains. If you have the time you should...
This is exactly the point I was going to make. This is a pretty generalized question which can't take into account all of the nuances of the intent and purpose of all easements.
If a municipality or public/quasi-public agency acquires an easement to provide recreational access upon or across...
It's bee season and there certainly do seem to be an abundance of them this year. I assume the weather has something to do with it also, but I don't have a scientific answer. My 2 year old got stung twice the other day, once on each hand.
Big old loud, oil leaking, smoke burping four-wheel-drive ATV with a brush-hog.
Yes, work is all done by hand. Fortunately I had some extra hands to help get it done.
That's a great trip. You should definitely return on a day with good views. I assume you went up the route past the Batavia Kill lean-to and over the Blackhead summit? Great view off the escarpment over there. The view from Black Dome is one of the best and certainly requires a return on a...
I must admit that I am one of those guilty of leaving very limited, if any, details of where I'm going. My wife routinely chastises me for it but I never seem to learn. I often hike solo and do a fair amount of bushwhacking so I should be more conscious and considerate. I had a pretty bad...
I agree. Mink oil was always the stuff of choice when I was a kid. My dad always used it. I went through Timberlands like crazy because the leather would soften and come apart at the rand. Same problem with "Bear Guard" which was supposedly made from bear fat. Switched to Snow-Seal (wax)...
Hmmm...guess I'll have to take a closer look at that Henderson monument next time.
I generally try to carry out litter that I find if it's not too large or disgusting. I did encounter a pair of boxer shorts at one of the view points on Windham High Peak a while back. Looked like they hadn't...
