    Parking in Concord NH

We've left cars in the free Park & Ride in Concord many times and never had problems. It's well-lit, has plenty of room, right off the highway, and it's free. Live free or die hard! http://www.nh.gov/dot/nhrideshare/p20.htm

Carrigain, First snowshoe for the season, 12/12/2009

Driving to a trailhead in a remote area like Crawford Notch without a cell phone is reckless! They should have been charged by Search And Rescue! :)

    True summit of Osceola

There's a 100' path on Mount Cabot leading from the summit sign to a point that's about five feet higher than where the summit sign is nailed to a tree. If you haven't hiked that path, then you should mail your patches back immediately, and hang your head in shame (slacker)

We found hikers on the summit of Mount Monadnock. Thousands of them, covering the summit like ants picnicing on a grassy knoll. :D

    East Kennebago beta?

The road heading in from the Landing was plowed in late December, but we did not drive up the road, as we did not hike EK. It's a pretty easy ski in from Route 16 to the Summer parking lot, if the road isn't plowed. You might need to shovel out a parking spot on Route 16.

Wildcat - accessing via ski area?

Many ski areas allow snowshoers on their trails. If you ask them, they'll recommend trails you should snowshoe on to avoid crowded trails. Stick to the side of any ski trail you snowshoe on to avoid collision with skiers. Someone once posted about a ski area (Sugarbush?) that denied snowshoers...

Snowstorm tomorrow night! (Not only mountains)

Thanks for the warning mattl; you are the MAN! Keep up the good work! We were going to hike Wednesday until we read your warning! Not sure Wednesday will be the coldest day of the year though; we froze our butts off in February? You're right when you say it's not a day to hike above treeline...

    Highland Center?

http://www.outdoors.org/lodging/lodges/highland/highland-rates-2007.cfm Highland Center is only $141 per person per night, with a two-night minimum stay on weekends, so it would only cost $1,128 for a family of four to stay there for the weekend. These rates seem as reasonable as they were...
