Boston Chapter (AMC) Winter Hiking Program

The Boston chapter course manual that you get with the course is filled with useful information. I was reading it as a refresher last week. If you don't like the art in this year's edition... that was someone else with the same name as me ;)

    Tripyramids July 1, 2006 - Adamiata's #48

Hey Dave, Awsome video, I should have hid more when the camera was out (then there would be video of me trying to hide behind tiny bushes). Thanks for coming with us. I had a blast and I'd love to hike with you again.

    AMC Awards for dogs

I hate to throw more wood into this discussion, but how about sled dogs, or hunting dogs. Should those sports be banned because overzealous owners have caused injuries to their dogs in the past. Dogs are currently admitted to the regular FTFC, I don't see why suddenly there would be more...

    AMC Awards for dogs

As someone who is 1) goal oriented 2)believes that working dogs need to be worked I think it's fun to celebrate our canine's achievements. Hiking with your dog adds challenges and fun. And while the dog may not care it can encourage the owner to go through the list all over again "for the...

    Dry River ..landslide area...closed bridge

I had been under the impression that the bridge had been closed due to essential parts of the suspension system having been completely ripped out of the brackets. I'm assuming that this would weaken the structure but not look dangerous to those of us who are not civil engineers Mind you, I'm...

    snow versus rain??

My only problems with snow is the occasional driving problem (mind you franconia notch while spinning is rather interesting). At the same time, direct hits on snowbanks seem to be more forgiving than trees. As someone who had snowshoes on at 2 and skis on at 3, bring it on.

    another boston drinkfest

I have to go into the city for Senior Portraits anyways. So you guys will get to see me about as far off from hiking attire as possible without wearing a ballgown.

Is there an unusual amount of blowdowns?

When we were on Jackson last friday night, some of the trees actually sprung back up after being given a good shake. Unfortunately most of the leafy trees were true blowdowns. And there were plenty of them, we spent the evening crawling over and under trees, it was worst than early spring...

    Most climbed mountain

Are we considering the people who train on Monadnock by summiting it several times in one day? I've heard of people training for Everest by running up and down Monadnock.

Mt. Jackson, Night hike - Oct 28-29th

I decided to post my other trip report from this weekend because it too was an adventure. Erappi, Sknydppr and I decided to do Mt Jackson as a night hike on Friday night because we wanted to rest a day before the big Moosilauke hike. First of all, we left Boston two hours behind schedule. So...

    My 48th - Moosilauke

I couldn't have pictured my 48th being any better. The weather was perfect and the company incredible. I'm not going to list off everyone who was there because I'm afraid of forgetting one of the 15-20 people that showed up, but if anyone has a better memory for names than me, please submit...

Early Notice - my 48th Moosilauke, Oct 30th... in costumes

So my plan is to leave from Ravine Lodge at 8am. I will be in costume... of some kind :D Mind you a coworker gave me a great idea for a costume with full winter gear. A sign that says "Nudist on strike".

Early Notice - my 48th Moosilauke, Oct 30th... in costumes

I'm really excited about it. I'm making pumpkin pie and chocolate spiders for the trip. I'm sure everyone here understand this, but be prepared for winter conditions. Even if it means finding crampons for your clown shoes ;)

Hiking the 48, a long strange trip!

I did Owl's Head on Saturday, I actually ran into Seema on my way there. Nice to meet you and Brian by the way. Our river crossings were very rough including one were I fell in... oh, and we weren't supposed to cross there. So we had to cross back. So when we were standing in the parking lot...

    Montreal Gathering 10-06
