New F&G Brainstorm - Charge EVERYBODY.

I was going to be cynical but the purchase of a fishing license fixes everything. I start to wonder if when someone does the job they have been charged with such as search and rescue irrespective of the situation when will we get to the place where service charges are incurred. "Hi I would...

    Backpacking Checklist - feedback requested!

I think it is important to do trip planning first and the gear you bring is based upon the trip. I also recommend packing your wits first. What I am suggesting is a note prior to gear selection reminding everyone to plan their trip and to use their wits to stay out of trouble. Beyond the above...

What was Marlin Perkin's sidekick's name?

Goss hawks The first time I encountered Goss Hawks I was attacked from back and front by a nesting pair. I had no idea what they were. I told them I was a human and they should be afraid of me. I was totally ignored. I did the only thing I could think to do. I got the hell out of there. I...

    Coe / Brothers / Fort - inquiry

4 mtns My advice watch the weather and go for it. I did it along with some young guys I met at the trailhead. Mistake #1---do not hike with very young men. I stayed with them until we got back to the junction with nothing left to do but return to our cars. They kicked my butt on the way back...

    One Savage Peak 9-21-11

I feel a bit distressed. I thought you said Scaur Ridge was the worst. Sounds like you are having trouble staying between the lines and on a trail. Now that I have heckled you a bit, sounds like an exciting adventure.

New England Hundred Highest Finish, Chain of Ponds Snow, 9/13/11

100 way to go. We talked way back about you finishing. Congrats. It is a good hike. I helped someone finish the NH 48 on Friday, Finishing a list is big and a whats next kind of moment. Interesting as I live real close to Blue Ox and employ someone who once worked there. Bigfoot

    Owl's Head

Sunday was the day. I was invited to join a friend of mine to hike to Owl's Head. BTW we are still friends after this hike. We met a guy in the parking lot at Lincoln Woods and asked him to join us. His group was not to be found. We went up to Black Pond and did a bushwhack to the Lincoln Brook...

Wrestling the Osceolas. January 16, 2011

We wore snowshoes up the trail. The snow had no substance and was just awful. We used microspike from East Osceola down. The car was wonderful to see. The col by the chimney was very tough. The trip reports for this hike this weekend could be copied and just change the names.

Wrestling the Osceolas. January 16, 2011

I went up there on Saturday and this hike kicked my butt. It had to be one of the most difficult 7.6 miles I have ever done. It was still fun.

    LL Bean

I need to give credit where it is due. Last August,2009, I purchased an LL Bean Bigelow pack. The final consideration was the guarantee. Two weeks ago a major zipper came apart on top of the mountain. Yesterday, I went to one of the stores with my pack. The guy behind the counter took me over...

Good news from the US Forest service

As long as they do not act like the DOT and post signs costing over a million dollars telling us they are spending money. I was told (do not know if true) NJ spent all the stimlus money on signs and did not move any dirt. I guess I have more faith in the Forest Service.
