Route: Lowes Path, cross country on snowfields, Israel Ridge, Air Line, Osgood, Valley Way

Date: 3/18/14

Equipment: Snowshoes, crampons, sunglasses & sunscreen

Conditions: Finally a Class 1 day - sunny w/slight winds. All trails nicely packed out.

Comments: Started up Lowes Path in snowshoes at a civilized 9:15 am. Trail was nicely packed out and fast. Switched to crampons about 1/3 mile above Gray Knob. Route was boney but not too bad. Saw fresh fox tracks near Adams 4. Headed cross country to tag Sam Adams (‘cuz I like that summit), then over to main peak. So far I had met one guy descending from Gray Knob but not another soul in sight. Descended to Madison Hut, where there were 8 or 9 hikers hanging out in the sun. It was very nice. Tagged Madison and descended a very nicely packed out Valley Way. Was such a beautiful day I didn’t want to leave above treeline! A nice farewell to Calendar Winter. :)

PS: Crazy Sage - think I have your zipper pull. PM me if you want it back.
