WRT Jim Lombard's thread on beautiful mountains, it seemed to be widely interpreted as what are the most beautiful mountains to be on and get a view from. I interpreted it different originally, as what are the most beautiful Mountains that you have seen to look AT. So I thought I would start another thread with that latter question. Again, top 5, my criteria is that they have to be mountains that you have seen with your own eyes.
My list (which ofcourse would be different if I was to come up with this tomorrow, but here it is today):
Northeast (1-5):
Gothics/Pyramid massif (Adirondacks)
Giant of the Valley (Adirondacks)
Washington (NH) (size matters, especially when viewed with Huntington and Tuckerman Ravines in foreground)
Adams (NH) (especially when viewed with King Ravine in Foreground)
Camel's Hump (VT) (distinctive dorsal fin shape is classic)
It is probably worth noting although I have lived in VT for 15 years I have never seen Katadin)
My western travel's(1-5):
Mt. Rainier (WA) (size matters)
Mt. Shuksan (WA)
Mt. Assiniboine (Alberta,CA)
Mt. Temple (Alberta, CA)
Half Dome (Yosemite)
Some notables I have seen only in pictures:
Ama Dablam
K2
Alpamayo (SA)
Robson (Canada)
OK maybe I have too much free time tonight, there is nothing on TV.
Cheers...
