Date of Hike: March 13 2011
Trail Condition: Majority area of Beaver Brook Trail is nicely packed snow. So I started to put on Microspikes. Just in case, we brought Snowshoes and Crampons, especially for ledges near the summit is steep and if it's icy, we thought we need to bring ice crampons. We saw ices here and there but most likely they were covered by 3-4 inches of snow. So Microspikes really worked well on the way to the Moosilauke summit. 12 people hiked together and only 1 guy wore snowshoes all the time since he doesn't have Microspikes. Other 11 hikers wore only Microspikes. On Beaver brook, water was running very rapid pace which indicates Spring comes around the corner.
Near the summit, it was 20F, it's snowing almost all day long.
Great day to hike to celebrate my AMC NEHH list completion. We celebrated with champagne.
Special Equipment: Microspikes (We didn't use Ice Crampons, Mountaineering axe at the ledges.)
Happy Hiking
