I've seen pictures of an impressive looking ice wall that is located at Blue Ledges on the Hudson. We're thinking about climbing it if we can get there.

Has anybody been back in there and do you know if it is possible to get across the Hudson to the base of the climb? Based on what I have read it does not appear too likely. Also, how much of the dirt road is passable in the winter with a 4WD truck? That could add as much as 3 miles to the approach.

Any beta would be appreciated!!!

Well, we hiked in to Blue Ledge. The dirt road is plowed in the winter. The Hudson was open and running fast directly below the climb. There was a stretch of undisturbed snow covering the ice upstream before another stretch of open running water.

We decided not to risk a crossing since even if roped the current would surely pull you under the ice if you broke through. The water was just running too fast for us to trust the river ice.
