I've seen male dogs squat to pee. I wasn't sure if 'she' was peeing, or getting ready to pounce. Or 'she' could be fertilizing the area too. ForestGnome -- What specifically made you state "she", if you don't mind.

Well, Tmax's idea was the same as mine. I assumed it was a she based on the way she did her thing, as seen in the second picture. I don't know if that definitively identifies her as a female. I just sense she was a she anyway, something about her presence.

She was also alone. She was close to me for at least 15 minutes and I stayed for a while after she disappeared into the forest, but never heard any others.
