I apologize if there has already been a thread started on this.

I'm not looking to start a gambling debate and I do want to keep this about hiking but I recently read the following on the Concord Monitor.

There would be two casinos in the North Country - possibly in Lincoln and Berlin,

Does anybody know what specific locations they are looking at? I am concerned about this as it might cause a nightmare of traffic problems for some of my future hiking trips. Any info or links?

Thanks.

Berlin they were looking at either the Jericho area or where one of the mills were.

Not sure of the Lincoln area.

But, I can't see either location causing any huge traffic problems, IMO. If you can deal with Loon traffic today in Lincoln, I can't see it being much worse. These won't be huge, Mohegan Sun places. As for Berlin, potentially (Jericho) would only affect traffic heading to the Kilkenny area, and it can be bypassed fairly easily.

I dont think they're at the point where they've decided on a specific location. I know a businessman in Groveton who has lobbyed to have one built just north of the town (near the vacant Emerson's building). I wouldn't hold your breath on this one though. Why would anyone invest a few hundred million to build a casino in the middle of nowhere when they could put it at Rockingham Park and siphon the money from Massachusetts?

In the past, gambling bills have included "Grand Hotels" and I believe the Mountain View in Whitefield is interested.

There is already a "Casino" in Bethlehem if I'm not mistaken, maybe it could be reused :)

at the Highlife Center?

They should put one at the Highlife Center!

Can't believe that people would drive that far to go to a casino.

Thousands of people every year drive farther to go to those in Connecticut. That is their theory, anyway.
