Do they allow hiking/mt biking along the Catamount Trail during the non-skiing months. thanks -brianW

A quick review of the Catamount Trail forums reveals that there are portions of the trail for which easements specifically are for winter use only. Additionally, a lot of the trail is not maintained for summer, for example, is wet or swampy and thus usable only when frozen.

I think you'd be happier sticking to the Long Trail and bonafide hiking trails for lots of reasons. And, you wouldn't be in danger at putting the Catamount Trail at risk for violating the conditions under which it's maintained.

But as mentioned some sections are both legal and reasonable, it looks like if you post a question on the forum about a specific section you will get a specific answer

A few years back I used a section of CT in the NF for a loop with LT, ground was frozen with no snow and it was fine

Catamount Trail is a winter only trail. Most of the landowner agreements limit use to winter only, (but allow for maintenance in the rest of the year.)

However, where it is on public land, such as National Forest and State Park, this restriction does not exist. In addition, the section owned by the Power Company coincide with an existing hiking trail.
