Colden from Loj Feb 18th

Path packed solid to avalanche camp then less packed to Lake Arnold and somewhat loose up the steeper Porter Trail. I just love this latter trail with some of the trail markers at ankle height just above the snow. Met a father and two teenage sons descending from the East slide approach, then on “little Colden” a couple who climbed the trap dyke. The last people encounter was with another couple going down to the col. The snow on the summit was deep enough to walk over the trees to avoid the narrow icy ledge by the rock. Not too windy at the top on a mostly clear day in the upper teens with great views.

Lingered at Marcy Dam on the way back to soak in the alpin glow reflected off the icy slopes of Colden. What a sight that was.
