Davis Path and Mt Crawford

Date of Hike: Sunday 12 February 2012

Trail Conditions: Generally packed snow all the way up, with a few patches of ice scattered hither and dither. Stepping off the trail in open sometimes yields a nice, up to hip posthole. Had to chase down a mitten that a gust picked up and was reminded again why snowshoes are helpful off packed trails. :)

Special Equipment Required: Started barebooting on flats... ...but traction is helpful. Microspikes or stablicers should do. (We both used Hillsound Trail crampons and had good luck).

Comments: Had planned to hike Mt Flume via Osseo and Kanc but given wind chill went for lower peaks. Still, very frosty on top - near -20 deg F plus some good gusts that could have knocked us off our feet, enough to remind us of our place in the Universe. :D Visiblity was limited, but could see a few nearby ridges. Great day to be up in the mountains without the longer distances and extreme exposure found on larger peaks yesterday.
