White Birch Books & Tin Mountain to
Host Famous Birding Couple Donald & Lillian Stokes
New Bird Field Guide
Thurs, Nov 18, at 7 PM

White Birch Books and Tin Mountain Conservation Center are joining forces again to present an evening with renowned bird and nature authorities Donald and Lillian Stokes. The two will discuss their brand new book, The Stokes Field Guide to the Birds of North America, with a slide show and lecture. The event will take place at Tin Mountain’s Nature Learning Center in Albany on Thursday, November 18, at 7 p.m. The event is free to members and $3 per person or $5 per family for nonmembers. White Birch Books will be on hand selling the books.

The new Stokes Field Guide is promoted as the most comprehensive photographic guide to North American birds ever published. Drawing on decades of research, observation and study, the Stokeses have produced a national field guide that is factually and visually superior to any other bird guide. The book includes 854 species, from backyard favorites to the latest high-interest varieties; more than 3400 stunning color photographs organized in an uncluttered, easy-to-view format; and the most up-to-date, detailed and complete identification clues of any North American field guide, with more space devoted to hard-to-find species. In addition, the guide provides a cutting edge emphasis on “quantitative shape,” with birds shown from every angle important for identification; all significant plumages, including male, female, summer, winter, immature, morphs, notable subspecies and birds in flight; and the newest range of maps, detailing species’ winter, summer and year-round ranges as well as migration routes.

But that is not all! The book also comes with a bonus downloadable CD with more than 600 bird sounds which encompass the vocal displays for 150 common birds as well as 150 photographs. For those wanting more birdsongs, the brand new Stokes Field Guide to Bird Songs: Eastern and Western Boxed Set will also be available at the event

Donald and Lillian Stokes are widely recognized as America’s foremost authorities on birds and nature. They have written more than thirty books, which have cumulatively sold more than 4.5 million copies, including the Stokes Beginners Guide to Birds, the Stokes Nature Guides and the Stokes Backyard Nature Books. They have hosted a popular public television series, Stokes Birds at Home, and offer current birding information on their Stokes Birding Blog. The Stokeses live with their two corgis on Bobolink Farm, their 48-acre property in New Hampshire, where their gardens have attracted more than 190 species of bird.
