Lots of transactions to date regarding various land protection activities in the Gorham and Shelburne area. This article has a map of the recent transactions. https://forestsociety.org/press-rel...00-land-community-heritage-investment-program. Add in other recent activities in the Success Township area and in Randolph and there are 10s of thousands of acres of land protected in the area that were not protected in the past. Of course, in the last few years some of the landowners hit the woods hard for one last harvest. All these lands are protected "forever" (as least as far as the law can go forever) so the trees will grow back and any future cutting will be 3rd party monitored sustainable forestry.

The tan colored lands on the map are a big chunk of the remaining Libby Corporation forest lands. Libby Corporation was a large landowner along the Peobody watershed north of Pinkham Notch with large sawmill complex in Gorham. The town pool in Gorham is part of the old sawmiil infrastructure. They were linked to the Glen House complex and the Carriage (now Auto) road. About 35 years ago they sold a big block of land to the USFS in the lower Great gulf and along RT 16 while retaining the Great Glen complex.

Add in some recent large additions to the Randolph Community Forest on the south side of RT 2 and much of the remaining forest lands on either side of RT 2 are now protected.
