Started up the White Dot from Park headquarters at 5:45 pm, trail up to Falcon Spring was in perfect shape, a little loose from the daytime thaw but starting to firm up from the dropping temps. Bare booted up to spring then used crampons from spring to summit knowing that there would still be plenty of ice above the tree line. Evidence of butt sliding during the day with the warm temps, this made the trail a virtual shoot from the spring all the way up to the tree line. Would have been nearly impossible without crampons because of the smooth surface caused by the butt slides freezing up into a sheet of ice.
Clear skies and a Full Moon (98%) made it a perfect night, no head lamps needed, the moonlight provided the light. Temps at the base were 34 deg, but at the summit it was a different story, the temp was 22 deg and the winds were howling at 30 to 40 mph making the wind chill around 0.
It was such a perfect night on Monadnock I don’t understand why we were the only 2 on the Mountain.
