Date of Hike: 12/24/07
Trail Conditions:
Lafayette to tree line...ice and a few drifts near tree line.
Tree line to Mt. Garfield...drifts and deep snow at first then wind packed to Garfield. In a few places water has eroded the snow in the middle of the trail, walking along the sides on the crust is easier.
Garfield to Galehead hut...Softer snow. Only one set of tracks from Garfield to roughly halfway between the Franconia Brook Trail and the Gale River Trail.
Special Equipment Required: Snowshoes required.
Comments: Garfield Trail was broke out on 12/15. Franconia Brook Trail unbroken from the ridge. Twinway from Galehead hut to South Twin broke out, as was the North Twin Trail, North Twin Spur, and Frost Trail to Galehead Mtn. All traveled on 12/24 courtesy of Mats Roing and Farmer.
