Date of Hike: July 23, 2011

Trail Conditions: Dry. The two primary water crossings in the first 1/4 mile were no problem.

Special Equipment Required: Machete, perhaps. There were some seriously tall grasses and weeds crowding the trail within the first 1/2 mile (after the 2nd water crossing on the ascent). Chest high and difficult to see your feet.

Comments: Lots of moose scat along almost the entire length of the trail. Observed some old bear scat on the road that the trail follows before returning into the woods. Lots of ripe raspberries (very tasty, too). Deer flies annoying as you hike along the grassy and logged areas, but generally go away once you reach the conifers. Encountered only one other hiker on the Goose Eye Trail all day. Met 3 others on the summit. Keep your eye out for the NH/ME border. Missed it on the way up. Look to your left when you reach the posted sign from ~2002 regarding logging activity. Note, Success Pond Rd. is a rough one. Probably best driven via truck or sturdy 4wd. Trailhead is at the 8 mile mark.
